Need help fixing an ipod touch 1g?

I bought an ipod touch on ebay, plugged it up and turned it on and it showed the red battery with ba lightning bolt through it, so i left it charging so i came back and it was stuck on the apple logo. I bought a sync cord and tried to restore or dfu it. I can't get it to connect to the computer or anything and itunes or my computer wont recognize the usb. I have tried an official Apple sync cable and a knock off and neither will work. I also tried the thing where you plug it into the computer and wait for half an hour and that didnt work. Please help. As i said it is 1g and is used.
